Bobby: A Charming Handwritten Font for Creative Projects

It was a quiet morning when I opened my brand board and stared at the blank canvas, ready to bring a new identity to life for a small café. The client wanted something warm, inviting, and just a little bit quirky. That’s when I first met Bobby, a fun and charming handwritten sans serif font with subtle ripped edges that instantly caught my eye. As a designer, I knew right away this could be the perfect match for the project.

Bobby for Café Logos and Cozy Branding

Bobby is a Script Handwritten font that feels like it was written by hand, not generated by a machine. Its subtle imperfections—those tiny ripped edges and organic curves—give it a personality that screams authenticity. For the café logo, I tested Bobby on a few mockups. It worked beautifully on the sign, giving it that cool and hip vibe the client was looking for without feeling too casual or unprofessional.

I used Bobby as the main logotype, pairing it with a clean sans serif font for body text. This combination gave the branding a balanced look—playful yet readable. It felt like the kind of place where you’d want to sit with a latte in hand and watch the world go by.

Bobby in Packaging Design and Product Labels

When it came time to design the packaging for the café’s signature drinks, I reached for Bobby again. The font's unique texture made it ideal for labels and stickers. I placed it on the front of a reusable cup, and the result was exactly what I wanted: a touch of whimsy that still felt professional. The ripped edges added character, making each label feel one-of-a-kind.

For product names, I experimented with different weights and styles of Bobby. The light version worked well for smaller details, while the bolder weight made an impact on larger formats like box wraps. It was easy to see how Bobby could work across various print and digital platforms, from packaging to social media posts.

Bobby for Social Media Graphics and Website Headers

On the web side of the project, I used Bobby for the homepage hero section. It looked great over a photo of the café’s interior, adding a friendly and approachable tone. I also created a set of Instagram posts using the same font, which helped maintain brand consistency across all channels.

One thing I noticed was how well Bobby performed on screens. Even though it’s a handwritten font, its structure allowed it to remain legible at different sizes. It wasn’t too ornate for headlines, and it didn’t lose its charm when scaled down for buttons or icons.

Bobby in Editorial Design and Print Materials

As I moved into designing menus and promotional flyers, I found that Bobby fit perfectly in editorial design. It had a natural flow that worked well for headings and titles, while keeping the rest of the content clear and easy to read. I paired it with a modern sans serif typeface to ensure the design didn’t feel cluttered.

On printed materials like business cards and flyers, Bobby stood out without overpowering the message. It added a personal touch that made the café feel more like a community space than just another coffee shop.

Bobby as a Display Font and Logo Font

Throughout the project, Bobby proved itself to be a versatile display font. It worked best as a headline or logo font, where its character could shine without competing with other elements. However, I did find that it wasn’t ideal for long-form text due to its informal style. That’s why I always paired it with a complementary serif or sans serif font for body copy.

Its use as a logo font was particularly effective. The subtle ripped edges gave the logotype a sense of movement and energy, making it memorable and easy to recognize. It was the kind of font that people would remember even after just a quick glance.

Bobby for Merchandise and Brand Assets

Finally, I incorporated Bobby into merchandise designs, such as branded mugs, tote bags, and aprons. Each piece carried the same playful yet professional tone as the café’s identity. The font’s unique style made the merchandise stand out, and it helped reinforce the brand’s personality across physical products.

When working with commercial fonts like Bobby, it’s important to check licensing to ensure it can be used across all intended platforms. In this case, the font came with full commercial rights, which made the process much smoother.

Overall, Bobby was a fantastic choice for this project. It brought a sense of warmth, creativity, and individuality to every part of the brand identity. Whether it was on a logo, a menu, or a social media post, it consistently delivered that cool and hip vibe that made the café feel special.
